Gibson are massive fans of taking influence from the guitars they made years ago. The 50’s and 60’s guitars are some of the most iconic models known to mankind and their inspiration on the scene is still found today not only in Gibson but other brands as well.With this model Gibson have decided to take it back to 1958 when the humbucker was a fresh new idea and the world hadn’t experienced jsut how good a burst can look on a Les Paul. Of course as this is part of the High Performance line it had to be filled with some killer tech but it doesn’t take away from the killer vibe.50’s BuildDuring the 50’s the Les Paul was a real big and heavy guitar. There was no such thing as weight relief back then and people liked big and chunky necks that you could really dig in to without causing any kind of damage.This guitar takes the same size and shape of the 50’s Les Pauls but updates it with some modern weight relief in the Mahogany body that is topped with a beautiful piece of maple. This means that you can play for longer without the back and neck strain that so many players associate with the Les Paul at longer gigs.The neck has not been changed much. In fact it still uses the same rounded 50’s style neck profile that has been offered on guitars for years as part of the Gibson line-up. Made out of mahogany with a rosewood fingerboard this guitar is a joy to play especially for Les Paul traditionalists.Hot PickupsOne of the biggest tricks this guitar has up its sleeves is the pickups that are installed. The 50’s tribute features a pair of the rather hot but vintage inspired 490R and 498T pickups that are incredibly popular for a wide range of styles.By playing with the volume and tone controls you can dial these pickups back to get classic PAF tones or turned up they deliver a much hotter sound perfect for more modern rock and metal styles where fast attack and great response are key to getting your sound.Next Generation G-ForceG-Force is an incredibly interesting technology that simply wants to save you time. We have all played gigs where your guitar goes out of tune halfway through. Just like we have all played gigs where we need to quickly change between tunings.Gibson’s G-Force system makes those previous tasks a second thought. Just set it up with the tunings you want. Select what you want using the unit on the back of the headstock and you are in tune within seconds.And don’t worry just because it has the ability to tune itself does not mean that you can’t tune manually. The machine heads are actually very accurate 40:1 ratio tuners so you can get pitch perfect in no time at all.New Titanium NutThe 2015 version of the Zero Fret Nut was made out of brass. Unfortunately that meant is was very soft for a nut and could be damaged from heavier gauge strings. To make sure this does not happen again Gibson have changed the brass for much stronger Titanium.The neck on all of the 2016 USA models is based off of this Custom Shop model offering the same incredible feel that previously was only available on some of Gibson’s most expensive guitars.But they did not end it there with the neck. No this guitars neck width is slightly wider than you might be used to compared to other Gibson guitars. By increasing the nut width by just 0.05″and keeping string spacing the same you get more area to play with.
